The reservoir was formed in 1942 by the construction of the Mansfield Dam on the western edge of Austin,Texas by the Lower Colorado River Authority. Lake Travis has the largest storage capacity of the seven reservoirs known and the Highland Lakes, and stretches 65 miles upriver from Travis County in a highly serpentine course into southern Burnet County to Max Starcke Dam, southwest of the town of Marble Falls.

Flat Creek Winery is nestled on 80 acres, happily proving for a decade that quality Texas grapes can produce award winning wines. Stone House Vineyard is situated on a high bluff overlooking Lake Travis, benefiting from the moderate cool breezes off the water. The Duchman Family Winery was founded in 2004 in The Texas Hill Country. The owners love of the unique Italian grape varieties as well as similar weather patterns to Texas inspired them to work with a viticultural consultant to produce grapes that would allow their winemakers to experiment with making wines like Vermentino, Sangiovese, and Dolcetto. Lunch can be purchased at Trattoria Lisina, next door to Duchman.

The 7 acres of close planted Norton vines are grown in semi-drought conditions. Flat Creek Winery is located northwest of Austin in the Texas Hill Country. It is nestled on 80 acres, happily proving for a decade that quality Texas Grapes can produce award winning wines.

First stop will be at Solaro Estate Winery, where it expands above the Barton Creek, outside Dripping Springs, in harmony with the beauty of the vineyards, racing Thoroughbreds and the spectacular vistas of the Texas Hill Country. In the Italian tradition, the Tasting Pavilion is integrated with the Vineyard, encouraging the natural connection from the vine and grape to the glass. Next stop is The Salt Lick, world renown for its slow cooked, over coals BBQ. Started in 1967 with one pit and a small screened in porch, The Salt Lick now serves mouthwatering barbeque to thousands each week.

Set amidst the beautiful rolling hills of Texas is a most pristine piece of land, perfect for growing grapes and making wine. Flat Creek Estate is nestled on this 80 acres, happily proving for a decade that quality Texas grapes can produce award winning wines. The grand planting on April 1, 2000 marked the beginning of commercial grape growing at Flat Creek. It took 60 people, 6000 plantings, and 6 hours. The vineyard has grown from the initial 6 acres to nearly 20 acres of vines today. Varietals include Shiraz, Sangiovese, Montepulciano, Tempranillo, Muscat, Canelli, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Blanc, and several Portuguese port varietals broken up into four vineyard blocks.
