With four beautiful golf courses designed by three talented and legendary architects, it was hard to pick just one course as a Barton Creek favorite. We, instead, picked our favorite holes from each course to present the 18 Best of Barton Creek.
Palmer Lakeside #1
Par 4, 400 yards (back tees)
The opening hole of this peaceful challenge offers golfers a scenic overview of the entire property from the elevated tee box. Right of the cart path is trouble with woods and out of bounds marking the path. Players finding the fairway after a 70 foot drop from the tee will have a fairly short iron approach to the green, with bunkers guarding the entrance on both sides and a tree to the left of the green. |
Crenshaw Cliffside #4
Par 4, 424 yards
Golfers face a wide driving area off the tee, but the approach narrows greatly as you close in on the tree-encircled green. This is another fairly large green with traps guarding the entrance on both sides. The golfer is once again challenged with a severely right to left slope feeding the ball to the back left portion of the green. |

Fazio Foothills # 8
Par 5, 505 yards
This long par 5 plays downhill from the tee box with players aiming to the left center of the fairway for the best approach. You must stop in front of a creek on the left side to avoid watery disaster. Avoid the right side of the fairway to make sure you will not be blocked from seeing the green or lay up landing area, a narrow one with danger for any shot left or over the putting surface. |
Fazio Foothills #9
Par 3, 175 yards
One of the most famous par 3s at Barton Creek or anywhere in Texas for that matter. Hole used as the Hill Country signature shot for good reason. Golfers face a thundering waterfall short and left off the variety of tee boxes meaning anything short or left is a watery and likely unhappy conclusion to the front nine. The green is fairly flat meaning anyone hitting the putting surface off the tee has a chance for success, but there are many more danger spots than happy endings on this famous hole. |

Fazio Canyons #10
Par 4, 442 yards
A great beginning to the back nine and one of the signature holes at Barton Creek. This severe dogleg right requires players to play their drives to the left side of the fairway. Provided they achieve their first goal, there is still a very small green which appears from a distant to be sliding into the rushing creek which guards the putting surface. Anything right of the fairway will be lost in the brush and the big hitters can drive it through the fairway into the trees on the left. |
Palmer Lakeside #11
Par 3, 197 yards
This is regarded as one of the prettiest holes in all of Texas as golfers face a series of waterfalls and ponds cascading down from behind the green eventually streaming by the left side of the green and along the fairway. Don’t let the beauty fool you as the safe play is to the right, where you can putt for par or birdie as the water rushes past. |
Crenshaw Cliffside #13
Par 3, 160 yards
A beautiful par three where golfers tee off to a putting surface perched upon a canyon backdrop. Short of the green is a rocky, dry creek bed that catches a few shots from time to time. Any shot short faces a very difficult recovery with large bunkers lining the left side of the large green. Tee shot placement is vital to have a chance for par or better on this large sloping putting surface. |
Fazio Canyons #13
Par 4, 357 yards
This is a short but tough dogleg par four with a small creek splitting the middle of the fairway. A creek runs along the left side with a large bunker also on the left before running toward the narrow but deep multi-level green. This is a good chance to three putt if you come up short on this large green. The 13th is a beautiful hole with the rock face bordering the right side approach. |
Crenshaw Cliffside #14
Par 4, 317 yards
This short par 4 tempts the big hitters to think they can drive the green especially from a tee box perched high above. But before pulling out the big stick, consider a large tree which sits on the left side of the fairway, covering most of the left side near the green and overshadowing a bunker. The best play is to lay up short and chip on, but the gamblers like to whale away and take their chances on a very narrow green. |
Fazio Canyons #15
Par 4, 457 yards
The fantastic four hole finish to the Fazio canyons begins with a sharp downhill par 4 with brushy woods covering back sides. Walk to the back of the championship tee box and you can catch a peek of the Texas State Capital. The hole descends to a narrow looking fairway and a deep creek beginning on the approach and bordering along with right of the green, sending any wayward approach shots to watery disaster. |
Fazio Foothills #16
Par 4, 422 yards
This hole is annually ranked as one of the toughest and prettiest holes in the state. A tunnel-like driving area leads to a much larger landing area. Golfers should avoid the right side of the fairway as they will be blocked from a good view of the fairway on their second shot. Large watery drop-off guards the front portion of the green with the proper approach shot needing enough yardage to avoid disaster. Once you land on the green the fun really starts as the thundering waterfall can distract you and the beauty overwhelm you. |
Fazio Canyons #16
Par 4, 452 yards
Another long but interesting par 4 commands a player’s attention with a down hill tee shot but then an uphill approach to the green. The fairway gently slopes from right to left toward heavy brush and trees. The approach is a very challenging uphill shot to a green that has a false front with the remainder hidden. A very deep, almost 4 club green. |
Crenshaw Cliffside #17
Par 3, 142 yards
This is the signature hole at Barton Creek Crenshaw Cliffside. It’s a temptingly short par 3 where golfers must cross a deep canyon off the tee to a very shallow green with bunkers guarding the front portion. A steep hill rises behind the green and many golfers play their tee shot off the hill and allow it to roll back onto the green, but not too fast as it can roll off the green and back into the canyon. |
Fazio Foothills #17
Par 3, 203 yards
This is a long and challenging par 3. Golfers tee off from an elevated tee box to a long and narrow green which puts a premium on accuracy. Missed left and you’re in deep bunkers with the green greatly elevated above your head. Missed right and you’ll find the greenside trees, chipping or putting towards the menacing bunkers. Depending on pin placement, you can have an extremely long putt for birdie, par or worse. |
Palmer Lakeside #17
Par 3, 163 yards
The last of five Par 3s on the Arnold Palmer designed course. The final par 3 offers a serene pond in front and left of this green. The watery trouble along with bunkers right make accuracy vital for successfully reaching the green. |
Fazio Foothills #18
Par 5. 560 yards
This a grand finish to a beautifully crafted Fazio design. An accurate drive in the fairway is paramount to achieving success on this hole. Your second shot should be over the abandoned bat cave to set you up for wedge to a greatly elevated, canyon-fronted green. Only the biggest hitters will try to reach the green in two shots and many will pay an ultimate watery penalty. Like many holes at Barton Creek foothills, this may look too fierce off the tee, but good shots and a good strategy can pay off with good results. |
Fazio Canyons #18
Par 5, 561 yards
Water crosses the fairway not once, but twice here on this final hole. More than one match or lead has changed hands on this highly strategic piece of real estate. The hole is downhill from the start, with golfers having to choose twice for the best place to lay up in front of the water. The second stream cuts directly in front of the narrow green, meaning watery disaster or green grass victory awaits each player. To reach the green on the approach, the player must carry a large live oak tree just short front left of the green. |
Palmer Lakeside #18
Par 4, 373 yards
Golfers face a slight dogleg right with a fairway which goes uphill towards the clubhouse. The golfer should favor the left side of the fairway to avoid being blocked out by the grove of trees on the right. A short uphill approach to the green provides the final challenge Barton Creek Lakeside has to offer. |
